Come celebrate this year's Dragon Boat Festival with ACA! Originating in China millennia ago, this festive occasion honors the revered poet Qu Yuan and his enduring legacy. With thrilling dragon boat races, delectable zongzi treats, and the rhythmic pulse of drum beats, the festival embodies unity, joy, and cultural richness. This will be a fun way to enjoy summer with friends and family! We’ll be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, and traditional handmade zongzi. Plus, don’t miss our exciting kid’s activities with fantastic prizes to be won! This year, we will also be hosting a Dragon Boat Raingutter Regatta Competition! If it rains, the event will be held at the Alaska Asian Cultural Center (4807 Northwood Dr) next door.
Online tickets were only available until 11:59 PM on June 13th, but tickets will be available for purchase at reception.
Dragon Boat Raingutter Regatta Competition Details:
Celebrate the joy and energy of the Dragon Boat Festival with ACA’s Dragon Boat Raingutter Regatta Competition: a fun, hands-on activity open to participants of all ages. Even without a nearby river or full‑size dragon boats, this regatta helps to capture the spirit of dragon boat racing. Anyone can enter; all you need is your own miniature boat and a bit of creativity. Boats will race down water‑filled raingutters, and we’ll be awarding prizes for both the fastest boat and the most creative dragon-esque boat.
For competitors’ reference, the race lanes will be 9’6” long, 6” wide, and about 6” deep. Make sure your boat will fit! To help participants get started, ACA has a limited number of boat kits available. If you’d like one, please contact ACA at info@alaskachinese.org ahead of the event to arrange a pick-up.
You can also purchase boat kits from Amazon here: Raingutter Regatta Trimaran Boat Kit.
